Nationwide Series Recap: Milwaukee Mile
There were no back flips last night for Carl Edwards. In the wake of tragedy in the racing community, the Camping World RV Rental 250 winner celebrated in a much quieter fashion than usual. While the crowd first asked for Edwards’ customary celebration, then booed the victor when he didn’t comply, the driver explained that the death of Drag Racing Champion Scott Kelitta yesterday deserved more respect than champagne and gymnastics.
Edwards, the defending series champion, had waited 36 races to reach victory lane at the Milwaukee Mile. This past week, Jack Roush had decided that they wouldn’t be winless for 37 and swapped crew chiefs, putting Edwards in the car with Drew Blickensderfer atop his pit cart for the first time. The move seemed to be a smart one, as Edwards ran near the front for most of the race, bumping Clint Bowyer to take the lead with 38 laps to go. The Richard Childress driver was none too happy about the move, and Edwards apologized for the move in victory lane. Bowyer will continue to lead the Nationwide Series points, however.
Clint Bowyer pulled off the track in third following much-lauded rookie Joey Logano (Joe Gibbs). David Ragan (Roush Fenway) finished fourth, with David Reutimann (Michael Waltrip Racing) fifth. Brad Keselowski was the pole winner; he led 145 laps of the 190 lap race and finished eighth.
